Tips: How to Decorate Your Cake

You may have a fantastic cake recipe which you want to try at home, and give the cake to someone as a birthday present, or just share it with your family. But unless you know how to decorate it, it may seem just like any other kind and fail to impress as it should have with superb decorations. To learn how to decorate one, the following tips will greatly help.

There are several ways of decorating, from simple ways to complex ones that need expertise and experience with the recipes. For example a simple cake can be sprinkled with sifted confectioner's sugar, and give it a nice finish. A layer kind one is also a nice example of decorating, and to do it, you need a long serrated knife, plastic wrap, pastry brush, cardboard circles, and simple syrup. Once you have all these, then trim the top and bottom. The cardboard is used for cutting out the crust, before using the syrup which keeps the cake from drying out. Note that the knife used for cutting should be moved gently back and forth, in a sawing motion.

But if you want to achieve professional decoration, then applying the crumb coat is the most ideal way of doing so. One ends up with a smooth sided cake, and the final frosting coat is easy to apply and free from crumbs. By applying the syrup with a pastry brush, you will be adding sweetness and flavor at the same time. Once you have decorated, you can then have it in a freezer or anywhere cool, where it can dry and become firm.
